Life Challenges to Mental Health & Wellness


Sometimes life presents us with challenges from within or without and our reactions to these challenges may leave us with unresolved and negative experiences, perspectives and perceptions. 

Our reaction to the challenge may be a mild or moderate experience of unease, discomfort, or another negative perception. Sometimes, the challenge may trigger more severe reactions including feelings and perceptions of misery, suffering, or even hopelessness. 

Sometimes, the situational challenge seems to just arise in our lives whereas other times, we may discover that it can be identified with or linked to lifelong patterns that we have never fully resolved or found a way to experience with a genuine sense of peace or acceptance.

Common symptoms or experiences that therapy can address:


  • An inability to find or maintain a sense of inner peace with the experience

  • Holding negative beliefs about yourself in relation to the challenge or experience

  • Holding negative beliefs about life in general that is related to the challenge

  • Feeling or perceiving a sense of dissatisfaction, disillusionment, or confusion with an experience

  • Recognizing you are able to successfully achieve to your satisfaction in other life areas with the exception of this challenge or experience

  • Finding yourself repeating unhelpful patterns in an attempt to change the experience

  • Unable to create lasting and meaningful change with the experience, despite great effort which may even include significant accomplishments

  • Experiencing a sense of emptiness or as if something is missing, in relation to the challenge

  • Negative thought patterns may dominate your psyche when presented with the challenge

  • May identify a history of negative mental and emotional challenges, such as anxiety or depression relating to the challenge

  • May identify a patterns or history of compulsive behaviors that you may or may not associate with specific challenges and negative experiences

  • May have been diagnosed with a mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder that you associate with the experience

  • You may experience difficulty with healthy functioning when experiencing the challenge

  • You currently have external factors in your life, that you cannot control, that are toxic and unhealthy, which continue to negatively impact you despite attempts to shield yourself from the challenge or experience
